Prickly pear Juice with celery to reduce cholesterol and protect your intestinal flora

Prickly pear and celery are two vegetables that are rich in vitamins and full of benefits for our health and well being. Which is why experts recommend introducing them to our every day diet to obtain these many benefits. A way to do so is by having a prickly pear juice with celery that will reduce your cholesterol levels (LDL) as well as protecting your intestinal flora with all of the fiber that it contains.

On one hand,  prickly pear contains mucilage, a type of soluble fiber, which protects the mucous and also helps speed up the passage of food through the digestive tract. Its amino acids also help eliminate toxins, and its fiber nutrients in general control the cholesterol and glucose levels in our bloodstream, which also aids with weight control.

On the other hand, celery helps strengthen hydrochloric acid in the stomach, regulating the pH of this organ and reinforces the microbiota, in other words, the good microorganisms of the intestine. Its fiber and other nutrients such as vitamins C, B, K and antioxidants, help fight constipation and abdominal swelling, is purifying and improves kidney function.

For people suffering with diabetes, it is suggested they have anywhere from 85 to 130 grams of prickly pear daily, to regulate their levels of glucose, but always under the supervision and approval of their primary care physician.

Prickly pear has many benefits, as well as celery, but it has to be taken moderately to avoid any side effects, specially when you are being treated for reducing cholesterol or insulin levels.  Additionally, it is important to always ask for your primary care doctor’s opinion before consuming any supplements, specially when you suffer from a chronic condition. Remember the most important thing is always your health.
